sudo apt-get install mplayer2
sudo apt-get install smplayer
sudo apt-get install smtube /* add Youtube plugin for smplayer
configure smplayer with video driver xv (glamor)
1080p Big Buck Bunny H.264 seems to play in smplayer with 50% CPU load on a single email@example.comGHz - not that bad
sudo apt-get install vlc
The VLC player works if you select OpenGL(embedded system) as video output and
uses about 50% CPU load on a single firstname.lastname@example.orgGHz.
Videoplayback with vdpau (H.264) just causes about 15% CPU load on a single email@example.comGHz
In Debian 9 va-api replaces vdpau and delivers about the same good result
test vdpau via gstreamer with Debian Jessie:
Which Debian Linux movie players should support vdpau out of the box ?
Which Debian Linux movie players could be compiled with vdpau support ?
I got the best result with smplayer:
1080p video needs about 100% CPU load on 3 firstname.lastname@example.orgGHz
Please be aware that you can overheat your CPU/GPU while playing hires H.265 movies which
could cause a reboot.
